A lovely gift ((Preservation from Umbral GuildPortal))

{I was inspired by the description of the lovely charm-making kit}

The parcel is wrapped roughly in paper. The recipient's name is scrawled in awkward block letters, together with a note which says: "A lovely gif' fer a lovely frien'". Honnete is generous to her friends but not always discriminating, so the recipient is cautious when unwrapping the gift. The meat and fish haven't always been completely fresh when they arrived....and there was that one time when Honnete sent all of her friends a chocolate cake. The recipient shudders. The cake itself had tasted all right, but there had been more of it on the wrapping paper than inside the wrapping!

The bracelet within is more of a bangle really, thin leather cord wrapped around a core of copper wire that she must have bartered from a jewelcrafter. The charms strung on it are carved bone. Along the bracelet, the carver's hand has evidently become more sure and practised with the work. The first charms are crudely whittled, little more than shapes hacked out of pieces of bone. After the first few, there are attempts at shaping the charms. One is a heart, one a rough arrowhead, another possibly some sort of animal. Towards the end, the shapes are clear and distinct. The carver has learnt precision in her craft. These shapes are recognisably the forms of particular beasts: a mammoth, a rhino, a pig. Yet further along, a naga hisses, its tiny face snarling in anger. The last charm is the most detailed: a perfect chain of three interlinked circles. The carver appears to have made an effort to stain the centre circle. However, the effect is more that of dried blood than decoration.
